Position Title: Farm Coordinator (position open until filled)

Full-Time, Hourly, non-exempt: 35 hours/week M-F (7 hrs/day) + optional extra hours hosting farm events on weekends

Compensation: $22.00-25.00/hr depending on experience


About Us:

BeeWorthy Farms is a certified organic cut flower and herb farm cultivating beauty and nourishment on one acre in Encinitas, CA. We grow high-quality flowers and herbs using regenerative practices, and we create a welcoming, peaceful space for visitors to connect with the land and one another. Our farm is located on land leased from the Encinitas Union School District (EUSD), where we share key infrastructure such as the walk-in cooler and restrooms. We sell primarily wholesale to florists and also welcome the public onto the farm for u-picks and other workshops.

Job Description:

The Farm Coordinator will be responsible for leading and overseeing the planting, care, and maintenance of approximately 0.75 acres of flower production.  This position focuses on harvest, bed preparation, planting and crop maintenance (including weeding, trellising, and fertilizing) utilizing efficient methods demonstrated by the Manager. The Farm Coordinator will also perform “triage”: making informed decisions based on priorities, urgencies, farmer well-being, and land needs through leading farm walks and setting tasks for the week. Furthermore, they will support in greenhouse work, integrated pest management, landscaping, prepping orders for customers and making deliveries.  Sufficient time, recordkeeping and communication is essential for the success of planning and coordination between the Farm Coordinator, Manager and rest of the team.

Job Requirements:

  • 50% Harvest.  

    • Set-up and break-down of field harvest station.

    • Harvest crops in an efficient manner.

    • Record harvest quantities.

    • Parse out crops for orders.  

    • Packing for delivery.

    • Delivering flowers.

    • Cleaning fridge and washing buckets.

  • 35% Field Work.  

  • Clear old crops/weeds from field.

  • Test and fix drip irrigation lines.

  • Amend beds, 

  • Prepare beds with broadforks and BCS.

  • Transplant crops and install crop protection.

  • Weed and fertilize crops.

  • Implement Integrated Pest Management techniques.

  • Trellis, prune, pinch, deadhead crops.

  • Seed crops in greenhouse, up-pot, propagating, irrigating, and thinning.

  • Assist in farm repairs.

  • Maintain a safe, organized, clean and beautiful farm.

  • 15% Planning and Support. 

  • Participate in weekly check-ins.

  • Lead weekly farm walks and collaborate on planning tasks for the week

  • Participate in semi-annual performance reviews.

  • Lead recordkeeping and reporting for organic certification and future planning purposes.

  • Maintain positive working relationships with all of BeeWorthy, Farm Lab, customers, and partnerships.

  • Provide general support for BWF’s programs and events, as needed.

Essential Qualifications

  • 2+ years of farm experience on a production oriented operation 

  • Knowledge of and experience with regenerative farming practices, including a practical understanding of:

    • Principles and practices of organic regenerative agriculture as related to soil health, water conservation, and integrated pest management.

    • Common no-till and small scale farm equipment, including seeders, long handled farm tools, etc.

    • Basic understanding of plant growth and maturation.

    • Raised bed preparation and familiarity of no-till farming.

  • Understand the importance of timely harvest and cooling of flower crops, while utilizing appropriate techniques

  • Ability to lift a minimum of 25 pounds on a daily basis, and occasionally up to 40 pounds.

  • Perform physical tasks associated with farm work.

  • Be in possession of a current California’s Driver’s License and auto insurance, as well as reliable transportation.

  • Willingness to learn and receive consistent feedback from the Manager

  • Ability to work independently in an outdoor setting during various weather conditions.

  • Ability to work collaboratively to prioritize tasks, multi-task and keep projects moving forward to achieve a shared set of goals

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
